Is this a good feat for new players?

My friend just invited me to a campaign. This will be my first experience with D&D and I was thinking of making my character be a Variant Human so I've been looking for feats to start with. I don't really know how this game works yet, so any input would be greatly appreciated  ^ᴗ^
