You don't want to be caught without option and are prepared for all situations.
When learning new Spells or preparing your Spells at the end of a long rest chose 2 Spells from your known Spell list. They don't count against your known or prepared Spell Limit. You can cast each Spell once per Long Rest at minimum Level (you still use a Spell Slot and need the Material Components the Spell requires)
