You have uncovered the mystery of the Lost City of Odunos.
The city of Odunos disappeared hundreds of years ago. Legends say that the citizens of Odunos angered Thassa, God of the Sea, and she destroyed the city with a tidal wave. You know that this is partially true.
Thassa did destroy the city with a great wave, but her anger was caused by the machinations of Damokles the Deceiver, the Champion of Phenax, God of Deception.
Damokles manipulated Odunos into a war with the Tritons. He then used dark magic borrowed from an agent of Pharikha, God of Affliction, to unleash poison into the sea around Odunos to break the siege of the Tritons. This killed all sea life for miles around and Thassa vented her rage upon the city.
Damokles tricked the queen of Odunos into pledging her citizens into eternal servitude to Phenax and then turned the ruined city into an underwater necropolis.
Over decades, Damokles lured champions of the gods to his necropolis so that he could kill them and capture spirit slivers of the gods. His plan was to do this until the Gods were weak enough for him and Phenax to slay them, and take over control of the celestial realm of Nyx.
Damokles' plan had almost reached fruition, but a group of adventurers managed to survive the deadly traps in his tomb, defeat Damokles in battle and even destroy the Path of Phenax which allowed the Returned undead to escape the underworld.
