As a bonus action, you compel a creature you can see within 60 feet with a commanding gaze. The target must be able to see or hear you and must make a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC. On a success, the creature knows you tried to influence it and is immune to this feature for 24 hours. On a failure, choose one of the following temptations; the effect lasts for up to 1 minute; it ends early if you or your allies damage the target or if you can’t see it:
-
Unveil Desires. You instantly learn the target’s strongest immediate desire. Until this effect ends, you have advantage on Persuasion and Deception checks you make against the target, and when you ask it one direct question, it must answer truthfully and plainly to the best of its knowledge (no saving throw for that answer).
-
Confessional. The target is compelled to confess. Each turn (including the turn you initiate the gaze), you may ask one question; the target must answer truthfully and aloud (as zone of truth affecting only that creature). The target knows it spoke the truth, but it doesn't realise that magic compelled it.
-
Velvet Command. You whisper a short, reasonable course of action (as suggestion, but no concentration; duration up to 1 minute while you sustain the gaze). This option expends 2 uses of this feature. The effect ends if the target takes damage or completes the suggested activity.
You can use Velvet Gaze a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a short or long rest.
This is not a charmed effect, and resistance or immunity to the charmed condition does not influence this feat or the saving throw.
