Grappler (Reworked) Image
Prerequisite: Strength 13 or higher

You’ve developed the skills necessary to hold your own in close-quarters grappling. You gain the following benefits:

  • You have advantage on attack rolls against a creature you are grappling.
  • When you attempt a grapple on a creature of your size or smaller, you may take a -5 to the roll. On a success, you may apply one of the following additional effects to the grappled creature:
    • Gag:Creature is silenced until the start of your next turn.
    • Pin: Creature is restrained until the start of your next turn.
    • Choke: If the creature has fewer hit points remaining than the total Strength (Athletics) check rolled, it falls unconscious, but stable, for 1d4 hours. If not, the target takes 1d4 damage for each consecutive round it has been grappled by you.

On your turn you may attempt to apply one of these conditions against a creature you are currently grappling by making another grapple attempt (taking the attack action as normal), this time without the -5. The DM may rule that a creature lacks the appropriate anatomy to be affected my one or more of the above options.
