“Temptation is the knife, that which may either cut the bread or the throat of a man; it may be his food or his poison, his exercise or his destruction. Through my bargain you have obtained forbidden knowledge of the world, and supernatural resistance. In temptation you are able to achieve so much, yet how much longer until the temptation destroys you?”
“The biggest human temptation is to settle for too little, may your ambitions never forget that, Aria.” - Leheh, The Devourer Snake of Forbidden Knowledge and Secrets.
A fragment of the Ancient Devourer now exists within you, enabling you to make bargains in the midst of combat. Once per round at the start of your turn, you may expend a reaction to strike one of the following bargains with Leheh:
Sonata of Sacrifice and Forbidden Knowledge:
You sacrifice any amount of your hit points that you choose and turn 80% of them into temporary hit points.
If you still have any of these temporary hit points remaining at the start of your next turn, they are lost and you heal for the remaining amount. This does not work with temporary hit points from any other source.
An easy shortcut to strength, blindsided by its beauty many fell to it before. Will you be able to bear its consequences? By sacrificing your true vitality and hiding being a temporary facade, will it suffice?
Ode to a Paradise Lost, and Never Remembered:
You teleport to swap positions and conditions with one of your Labour servants within 500ft as the servant sheds their skin, revealing Praetoria beneath the discarded facade. The swapped Labour servant drops to 0 hit points and dies. At the end of your turn after using this bargain you gain one level of exhaustion, this exhaustion ignores immunity and cannot be swapped with your Servants through this deal.
You do not hesitate to cleave from your own body to aid your pursuit, but what of the body of your allies? Your friends? Your family? Are you willing to bargain for their life in your crusade? And if so, what do you truly hold dear at all?
Aria to a Paradise Regained, and Salvation Found:
When you start your turn incapacitated, stunned or paralyzed, you may still strike this bargain in order to remove the aforementioned condition from yourself. Even if that condition prevents you from taking actions or reactions, as long as the condition removed removes that prevention. (Reaction still expended)
You are unable to strike this bargain when you are unconscious.
Every time you strike this bargain, you gain 1d4 stacks of ‘Promised Soul’. While you have a stack of ‘Promised Soul’ you automatically fail death saving throws and a ghostly golden snake weaves around your chest, wrapping itself around your heart. At the end of a long rest you may recover from 1d4 stacks of 'Promised Soul'.
When people are at their most desperate, they are willing to take the riskiest of bargains. You are offered a way out for now, but a mark on your soul will designate it for collection when the day comes.
