You gain the following benefits:

• Ability Score Increase. Increase your Dexterity score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
• Weapon Proficiency. You gain proficiency with the whip if you don't already have it.
• Reactive Crack. While wielding a whip, you can take a Reaction to make one melee attack against a creature that enters the reach you have with that weapon.
• Versatile Critical. When you score a critical hit using a whip, you gain one of the following benefits:
  • You may disarm the target, forcing it to drop one item of your choice that it is holding. The object lands at its feet.
  • You may knock the target Prone if it is Large or smaller.
  • You may grapple with the target. (See Grappled).
