When an ally you can see goes down to 0 HP, your desperation to protect them allows you to get close to them without causing opportunity attacks, and you get one free attack on the enemy who defeated your ally. If the ally who went down is someone you're in love with, you gain advantage on this bonus attack, as well as every following attack until your ally is revived.
