Blood Bond of the Beast

  • Prerequisite: Blood Hunter

  • Effect:
You form a blood bond with a beast or creature that you touch. As a bonus action, you can expend one hemocraft die to create this bond, transferring a portion of your life essence to the creature. While the bond lasts (up to 1 hour), you can use your action to share the creature's senses. You can see and hear through the creature's eyes and ears as if you were standing in its place. You are aware of the creature's surroundings and the condition of its body, even at a distance.

Shared Pain: While the bond is active, you take half the damage the bonded creature receives, rounding down. If the creature dies while the bond is active, you take damage equal to your level (not reduced by the Shared Pain effect).

    Limitations:
The bond lasts for up to 1 hour or until the creature drops to 0 hit points or is killed. Once you use this ability, you must finish a short or long rest before using it again.
You cannot use this ability on a creature that is immune to the poisoned condition or to necrotic damage.

Explanation of Features:

  • Blood Bond: Establishes a magical connection that allows you to share senses with a beast or creature, allowing you to see and hear from its perspective. The blood magic enables a deeper bond, putting a bit of your own life at risk.

  • Shared Pain: This balances the power of sharing the creature’s senses with a risk. You take half of the damage that the creature receives, meaning you’re in close proximity to the damage and are more vulnerable during the connection.

  • Level-Based Damage on Death: This adds a serious drawback. If the bonded creature dies, the blood magic backlash causes you to take damage based on your level, making it a risky and potent ability for both utility and damage.

  • Limitations: By restricting this to beasts and creatures that aren’t immune to poison or necrotic damage, you avoid certain creatures (like undead or constructs) that might be too unreasonably resistant to the effects. It also ensures the ability doesn’t become too overpowered by letting you exploit it on any creature.
