Companion Pet: Helper

You have some sort of animal or other type of small companion or pet that you have a close bond with. This creature is always by your side unless dismissed, and has been trained to help you with simple tasks. It understands either verbal or sign language commands. You can decide what form this Tiny or Small sized creature takes and what its personality is.

Your Helper pet will usually have some sort of little hands or dexterous paws, or some other way to grab and hold little items. They are also often fairly smart, and you are always teaching them the names for the items you keep in your bags, pouches and boxes which they are happy to rifle through looking for what you asked them for before handing it over and moving on to the next task or a well earned nap in your backpack.

 You gain the following benefits.

Inventory Assistant: Your Helper grabs you something out of your inventory and hands it you in a ready to be used state. This allows you to take the Utilize Action as a Bonus Action on your turn. 

Observant Protector: Whenever you start your turn with the Unconscious or Stunned conditions you can make a DC 14 Proficiency check (1d20+ Proficiency Bonus.) On a success your Helper has realized what is happening and they will deal 1 point of Piercing damage to you removing the Unconscious or Stunned condition. 

Your Helper cannot speak a verbal language, but can communicate simple concepts using noises and gestures. If you speak Sign Language it can learn this language, but will only be able to manage simple words or phrases.

You and your Helper pet are very good at working together to keep them safe while you are in dangerous situations. The Helper companion cannot be attacked or injured. If you are killed it will stay with your friends until such time as you are returned to life.
