Each character will have a pool of Hero points, a representation that you are no just an ordinary adventurer, you are extraordinary.
Whenever you roll a d20 for an ability check, attack roll, or a saving throw, before you know whether you pass or fail, you can decide to spend a hero point, roll a d6, and add it to the result. Ideally, when you spend the hero point, describe what incredible thing you did to attempt to change your fate.
You have 5+ half your level (rounded down) in total hero points.
Your hero points refresh when you level up. All unspent hero points are lost upon level up. (As an example, when you increase to level four, you will now have 7 hero points. If you had 2 left from your level 3 pool, those 2 points are now lost.)
