Boon Of The Machinist Image
Prerequisite: Level 20 Artificer (Gadget)

Through unparalleled ingenuity and mastery of construct-based magic, you have transcended the traditional limits of artifice. However, your innovations come at a cost.

Master of Machina

Your Steel Defender (Gidget) and Homunculus Servant (Gizmo) have been upgraded to enhanced constructs of incredible capability.

Upside:

  • The Steel Defender and Homunculus Servant gain updated stat blocks, reflecting their increased power. (Links provided with in the post)
  • Any constructs under your control gain enhanced autonomy. As a free action, you can command any or all of them within 120 feet, issuing individual or group commands. You decide what action they will take and where it will move during its next turn, or you can issue a general command, such as to guard a particular chamber or corridor. If you issue no commands, the creature only defends itself against hostile creatures. Once given an order, they continue to follow it until its task is complete.

Downside 1:

  • The upgrades to Gidget overload its aetheric core, removing its Repair feature. It can no longer regain hit points except by completing a long rest. If it is reduced to 0 HP, you must expend a 3rd-level or higher spell slot and spend 1 minute using your smith's tools to revive it with all its hit points restored.
  • If you drop to 0 HP, Gidget immediately drops to 0 HP as its animating magic fades.

Downside 2:

  • Gizmo’s magical core requires a minimum gem worth 10,000 gp. If Gizmo is reduced to 0 HP, its core is destroyed and must be replaced.
  • If you drop to 0 HP, Gizmo immediately drops to 0 HP as its animating magic fades.

Puppet Master

Your understanding of constructs has given you the ability to wrest control of them from their creators or even restore them to life under your command.

Upside:

  • As an action, you can expend a spell slot to attempt to take control of a construct within 60 feet. The construct must make an Intelligence saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, you gain control of it permanently. The spell slot level determines the maximum HP percentage of constructs you can target:
    • 5th level: Constructs at 100% HP or lower.
    • 4th level: Constructs at 80% HP or lower.
    • 3rd level: Constructs at 60% HP or lower.
    • 2nd level: Constructs at 40% HP or lower.
    • 1st level: Constructs at 20% HP or lower.
  • If the construct is at 0 HP, no saving throw is required, and you can restore it to life under your control. Its HP is determined by the level of the spell slot used (e.g., 5th level restores it to full HP, 4th level to 80%, etc.).
  • While the construct is under your control, it shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action. You may issue commands to it using the guidelines given by Master of Machina.
  • You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Downside 1:

  • You can only control one construct using this feature at a time. If you use this feature on a second construct, the first one is destroyed beyond repair. This feature also uses up your pet/companion slots, meaning you cannot obtain a pet/companion by any other means.

Downside 2:

  • A construct controlled with this feature cannot be healed by any means other than a long rest. If it is reduced to 0 HP, it is destroyed and cannot be targeted by this feature again.

Deus ex Machina

You have developed the ability to merge with constructs, repurposing their remains into armor.

Upside:

  • Cannibalize: Once per long rest, you can mark a Medium or larger construct that is at 0 HP for cannibalization. You are able to have this feature on a number of constructs equal to your proficiency bonus. After finishing a long rest, you can repurpose the construct as armor, gaining the following benefits:
    • Mount: The construct now becomes a suit of armor that can be mounted. To mount or dismount, you must use your action, as well as use movement based on the size of the armor. The movement used cannot be reduced in any way:

      Medium: 0 ft.
      Large: 10 ft.
      Huge: 20 ft.
      Gargantuan: 30 ft

While the armor is empty, the construct is considered stunned, even if it's immune to such effects.

While you are mounted in the armor, you are considered under full cover for the purposes of being targeted by spells, attacks, and abilities that require line of sight, and have access to all attacks, abilities, and traits of the construct as well as your own. You are still considered two separate entities for the purpose of being targeted for abilities, attacks, or spells. If the construct has multiattack, you are able to replace it's attacks for one of your own.
    • Aetheric Transposition: Through advanced aetheric manipulation, you can instantaneously summon and swap your constructs.
While the construct isn't mounted, you can use an action to instantly swap your current armor with another armor you had marked for cannibalization. This feature shares uses with Cannibalize.
    • Self Destruct: As a reaction to taking damage, Gadget can eject herself from the construct armor. She is knocked back 15 ft and is prone. If the attack that prompted this reaction reduces the construct's HP to 0, this reaction cannot be used.

Any creature within 10 ft of the armor must make a dexterity saving throw against Gadget's spell save DC. A creature takes 8d6 fire damage and 8d6 bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone on a failed save or half as much damage and isn't knocked prone on a successful one. After this feature is used, the construct drops to 0 HP.

Downside 1:

  • If the HP of the armor drops to 0 while you're inside, the construct’s armor becomes unusable, and you are incapacitated until the end of your next turn.

Downside 2:

  • Once the construct is brought to 0 HP, it cannot be reused, and you must mark a new construct to cannibalize to replace it.

Soul of Artifice - Enhanced

Your bond with your infusions has reached its zenith, granting you unparalleled survivability.

Upside:

  • If you’re reduced to 0 hit points but not killed out-right, you can end one of your artificer infusions, causing you to drop to 1 hit point instead of 0.

Downside 1:

  • If you have no active infusions when reduced to 0 HP, you die instantly instead of falling unconscious.

Downside 2:

  • Instead of adding +1 to saving throws for each attuned magic item, you roll 1dx die and add it to your saving throws, where x is the number of items you are attuned to. For example, if you are attuned to 4 items, you roll 1d4 and add the result to saving throws.

Infusion: Enhanced Firearm

Your modifications to ranged weaponry turn firearms into peerless weapons of war.

Upside:

  • Firearms infused with this feature gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls and are no longer subject to misfire scores.
  • If the weapon lacks ammunition, it produces its own, automatically creating one piece of magic ammunition when the wielder makes a ranged attack with it. The ammunition created by the weapon vanishes the instant after it hits or misses a target.

Downside 1:

  • This infusion cannot be applied to automatic firearms.

Downside 2:

  • This Infusion replaces your Enhanced Weapon infusion. You lose access to the Repeating Shot and infusion, but they must remain among your list of known infusions, reducing the number of infusions you can apply by one.

    Enhanced Spell Storing Item

Your mastery of arcane engineering allows you to expand the power of spells stored within your creations.

    Upside:

    • You can now store spells of up to 3rd level in a spell-storing item, instead of the usual limit of 2nd level.

    Downside 1:

    • This feature can only be applied to Gizmo (your Homunculus Servant). Gizmo functions as the spell-storing item, and only Gizmo can use the stored spell.

    Downside 2:

    • The number of spells stored in the item is equal to your intelligence modifier, instead of two times your intelligence modifier.
