Arcane Familiar

6th-level Order of Scribes feature

Your Awakened Spellbook empowers your familiar, turning it into a conduit for your magical intellect and enhancing its abilities. When you cast the Find Familiar spell, your familiar gains the following enhancements:

Arcane Familiar Traits

• Arcane Senses:
  The familiar can see in magical darkness and has darkvision out to 60 feet.
• Spell Conduit:
  Whenever you cast a wizard spell, you can cast it as though you were in your familiar’s space instead of your own. You can do so a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
• Inked Form (Optional):
  If your familiar is an Ink Familiar (e.g., an Ink Owl), it is tangible and can pass through creatures and objects. When reduced to 0 hit points, it dissolves into ink and reforms near your Awakened Spellbook after 1 minute.
• Empowered Form:
  Your familiar has hit points equal to 2 × your wizard level + your proficiency modifier and an AC of 10 + your Intelligence modifier + your proficiency bonus. It adds your proficiency bonus to its saving throws.

Actions Available to the Familiar

1. Arcane Assist (1/Turn):
   Your familiar can use its reaction to grant you advantage on a spell attack roll or impose disadvantage on a saving throw against a wizard spell you cast.
2. Evasive Maneuver (1/Turn):
   When the familiar or its bonded wizard is subjected to an effect that allows a Dexterity saving throw to take half damage, the familiar can use its reaction to take no damage on a successful save.

Movement and Range

• Your familiar follows the same movement and range rules as the Find Familiar spell, except its range extends to 300 feet from you.
• Your familiar acts on its own initiative and moves on its own turn, either immediately before or after your turn (your choice at the start of combat).

Balance Notes

• Durability: The improved hit points and AC ensure the familiar can survive longer without overshadowing other features.
• Utility: Arcane Assist and Evasive Maneuver add strategic utility without overloading the familiar’s action economy.
• Range Flexibility: Extending its range to 300 feet ensures it works seamlessly for both exploration and combat.
