Lycan Image

One of the most ancient and feared of all curses is lycanthropy. It can transform the most civilized humanoid into a ravening beast. In its natural humanoid form, a creature cursed by lycanthropy appears as its normal self. Over time, however, many lycanthropes acquire features suggestive of their animal form. In that animal form, a lycanthrope resembles a powerful version of a normal animal. On close inspection, its eyes show a faint spark of unnatural intelligence and might glow red in the dark.

Evil lycanthropes hide among normal folk, emerging in animal form at night to spread terror and bloodshed, especially under a full moon. Good lycanthropes are reclusive and uncomfortable around other civilized creatures, often living alone in wilderness areas far from villages and towns.

Curse of Lycanthropy. You have been afflicted with the curse of lycanthropy either after being wounded by a lycanthrope, or because one or both of your parents are lycanthropes. Choose a beast that has a challenge rating of 1/4 or lower as your beastial form. A remove curse spell can rid an afflicted lycanthrope of the curse, but a natural born lycanthrope can be freed of the curse only with a wish spell.

Shapechanger. You can use your action to polymorph into a beast-humanoid hybrid or into your beast form. Your statistics, other than your size, are the same in each form. Any equipment you are wearing or carrying isn't transformed. You revert to your true form if you die. You can also use your action to revert back into your true form.

You can remain in your beast-humanoid hybrid or your beast form for a number of hours equal to your proficiency bonus, at which point you automatically revert back into your true form, which is humanoid.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Hybrid Form. In hybrid form you gain:

  • Resistance against bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks that aren’t silvered.
  • Vulnerability to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from silvered weapons.
  • The beast's walking, climbing and swimming speeds (unless yours are faster).
  • The beast's actions that don't involve equipment.

You are proficient with the Beast's natural attacks, such as its bite or claws, which use the damage dice shown in the beast's statistics, but use your ability scores.

Beast Form. In addition to the features granted in hybrid form, in beast form you gain:

  • The beast's burrowing and flying speeds (unless yours are faster).
  • The beast's bonus actions that don't involve equipment.
  • The beast's traits.

You can't speak while in beast form.
