It seems like the enemy you are fighting is quite distracted. You see an opportunity for a solid fit, but it is behind the nearest guy. Well, if an ally is closer to the enemy than you, you will receive advantage on a stealth roll to get around the enemy.
With a 17 stealth check, you are able to sneak around the enemy closest to you and get behind him. If you fail, he will become aware of you and switch his attack from the person he is immediately fighting.
