Unfinished Passing Image

Death tried to take you, but something held you back.

Death claimed you once, but something—whether magic, science, or sheer defiance—dragged you back. Your body is a patchwork of old wounds and crude restorations, your soul an ember stubbornly clinging to a vessel that should no longer move. Perhaps lightning surged through your corpse, rekindling the spark of thought. Perhaps unseen hands stitched you back together, denying you rest. Whatever the cause, you now exist in a state between life and death, your body little more than a puppet for the will that refuses to fade. You are not truly alive, yet not entirely dead—a lingering mistake in the natural order, walking forward on borrowed time.

Undead Resistance: Your undead nature grants you abilities that the living cannot grasp:

  • You do not need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You are immune to disease and have resistance towards necrotic, poison and cold damage.
  • You have advantage on death saving throws
  • You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in an inactive, motionless state, during which you retain consciousness.
  • You are numbed, though not immune, to feeling pain.
  • You can still move severed body parts as though they are connected.

Undead Fragility: Your body is giving out resulting in inadequacies:

  • When you receive healing from a spell that specifically states it has no effect on undead, you will only receive up to your Constitution modifier from that healing (minimum of 1).
  • If you roll a 1 on both rolls of any death saving throw, you die and your soul is destroyed, thus you cannot be revived.
  • You are vulnerable to fire and radiant damage.
  • You are considered Undead for the sake of spells such as Turn Undead, Detect Good and Evil, etc.
  • Your pale skin, stiff movement, and even visible wounds give you disadvantage on Persuasion checks with creatures unfamiliar with your condition.

Deadline (Optional): Your body is giving out on you, will you achieve your goal on time? Work together with your DM to discuss the plans for how long your Deadline is and how it can have short term effects as well. For Example: You have decided that your character has an in-game year to live and every few months your body gives way a little more. At first its just the rigor mortis setting in, giving you a -1 to Dexterity. By the end, your eyes give out causing permanent blindness.
