You’ve seen things—felt things—that no one should survive. And now, when someone tries to hide what hurts, you can’t help but see through the cracks.
You gain the ability to cast the Detect Thoughts spell once per long rest, using Charisma as your spellcasting ability. When you cast the spell this way, you don’t need material components, and it manifests as an instinctual, emotional resonance—images, feelings, and flashes of memory rather than spoken thoughts.
While concentrating on Detect Thoughts, your connection is flavored by your own trauma and empathy:
-
If the creature shares a similar hardship (loss, manipulation, abandonment, etc.), you may maintain concentration without requiring it to be verbal or obvious—your eyes might glaze over, or your hand might twitch.
-
If you gently vocalize something emotionally resonant during this connection (like sharing part of your own story or naming a feeling you sense), you may roll with advantage on any Charisma check made against them for 1 minute afterward.
Once you cast Detect Thoughts this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
