Custom Rogue Feature (Red Veil Signature)

After having preformed and trained with the Red Veil for a number of years, you have mastered the art of vanishing in full view, cloaking yourself in illusion and misdirection. With a whisper of shadow and a flicker of false light, you slip from the world—even when there is nowhere to hide.

Hide in Plain Sight replaces the standard Hide function. It functions as follows:

  • Illusory Cover:
You may take the Hide action even when there is nothing to cover or obscure you, provided you are not in direct magical light (such as faerie fire) or under the effects of a reveal spell (like see invisibility or true seeing). You use a major illusory effect (flourish of shadow, bending light, silent veil, illusory object that matches your surroundings, etc.) to simulate cover.

  • Stealth vs. Perception:
Creatures attempting to perceive you while you are hidden via this method must succeed on a Wisdom (Perception) check contested by Your Stealth check to detect your location. A successful Perception check reveals your location, but not your form, giving you the advantages of 3/4 cover. If a creature wishes to subvert the illusory cover or already knows your general location, they may also attempt an Intelligence (Investigation) check contested by your Stealth to see through the illusion.

  • Interference:
If you take damage, cast a spell, or move more than half your speed on the same turn you hide, the illusion shimmers briefly. Perception checks to detect you are made with advantage until the start of your next turn. This is a concentration effect and may be disrupted using the rules of concentration.

  • Counterplay Options (DM Tips):

    • A successful Arcana check (DC 15) by an observer may reveal that the illusion is magical trickery, though not your exact location.

    • Effects like Detect Magic, Faerie Fire, or See Invisibility can still detect or outline you as normal.
