Prerequisite: Cleric level 5+, spiritual connection to Thanatos or similar divine patron, prior use or knowledge of spiritual projection, DM approval
You have delved too deep into the mysteries of soul magic. In your pursuit of balance and truth, your soul has fractured — torn asunder into mirrored echoes of Good and Evil. You are both mourner and monster, savior and shadow.
As a result, you gain the following:
✦ Split Soul Projection
Once per long rest, as an action, you may project two spiritual echoes of yourself into the battlefield: one formed from your Light (good-aligned soul), and one from your Darkness (evil-aligned soul).
-
Each echo is an incorporeal entity that shares your AC, Speed, and hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier × your cleric level.
-
The Light Echo radiates divine healing and protection. It can use your Channel Divinity to Preserve Life, or cast Sanctuary or Healing Word (once per projection).
-
The Dark Echo channels necrotic wrath. It can use Inflict Wounds, Toll the Dead, or your Channel Divinity to deal necrotic damage.
-
Both echoes last for 1 minute or until reduced to 0 HP.
-
While either echo is active, you take 1d4 psychic damage at the start of each of your turns — your spirit strains to stay whole.
✦ Fractured Harmony
The act of soul-splitting scars you. Whenever you summon your Soul Echoes:
-
You must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or gain 1 level of exhaustion.
-
Additionally, for the next hour, healing spells you cast on yourself heal only half as much.
✦ Echoes of the Past
Once per long rest, you may consult your Echoes to gain advantage on a History, Religion, or Arcana check as you access lost memories from both sides of your divided spirit.
-
On a success (DC 15), you may ask the DM one lore-based question about the undead, Tenebris, the Veil, or soul magic. The answer comes to you in a dreamlike whisper from one of your echoes.
🕊️ Roleplay Hooks
-
The Light Echo may whisper words of hope, urging you to forgive, protect, and guide the fallen.
-
The Dark Echo may encourage vengeance, tempting you to desecrate, dominate, and punish those who defy death’s order.
-
Both sides know they are you — and they war for control in your quietest moments.
⚠️ Consequences of Echo Use
Each time you use this feat, the world around you reflects the torment inside:
-
Plants wither in your wake.
-
Your journal pages bleed ink.
-
People near you report dreams of loved ones long dead.
-
Your sister Silva feels a pang in her disabled legs — as if the spiritual tether between you grows strained.
If you use this feat 3 times without reconciling the parts of your soul, Thanatos or another divine force may force you into a spiritual trial — where your Echoes take physical form to determine which version of Zander survives.
