Level 17: Smite Master Image
Prerequisite: Requires 17 levels or more in Paladin

You gain the following options for your smite:

Banishing Smite (5th level). The target takes an extra 5d10 Force damage from the attack as it crackles with energy. If the attack reduces the target to 50 hit points or fewer, you banish it. If the target is native to a different plane of existence than the one you’re on, the target disappears, returning to its home plane. If the target is native to the plane you’re on, the creature vanishes into a harmless demiplane. While there, the target has the Incapacitated condition. If it remains there for 1 minute and you maintain Concentration (as if concentrating on a spell), at which point it returns to the nearest unoccupied space if that space is occupied.

Petrifying Smite (5th level). The target takes an extra 4d12 Poison damage from the attack. The target gains the Poisoned condition, and makes a Constitution saving throw at the start of each of its turns. If the target succeeds on three saving throws before it fails three saving throws, it is no longer Poisoned and the smite ends. If the target fails three saving throws before it succeeds three saving throws, it is no longer Poisoned but gains the Petrified condition.

Additionally, when you use Smite to expend a first level spell slot, you can do so without expending any spell slots. You can do this twice, regaining all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
