You have cultivated an ancient, non-magical connection with the unseen currents of the world — a bond cherished by certain Elven traditions. You can commune with the wind to gather information and glean insights, speaking to it in whispers inaudible to others.
Windspeaker’s Insight.
As a free action, you can ask the wind a question or seek information about your immediate surroundings. This communication is a whisper, inaudible to other creatures, and is only possible where air is present (it fails in vacuums, underwater, or similar environments).
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus + your chosen Elven Lineage ability (Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma). You regain all expended uses after a long rest.
When you use Windspeaker’s Insight, you gain the following benefits, bypassing typical skill checks:
-
Environmental Awareness. You may bypass skill checks related to observation or natural understanding — such as Perception, History, Nature, or Survival — to receive relevant information from the wind.
-
Discern Truth. You may bypass Insight checks when discerning truth from deception within earshot, as the wind reveals subtle patterns in voice, breath, or motion.
Depth of Bond (Enhanced Progression).
Your bond with the wind deepens as you grow more experienced:
-
Initial (Levels 1–4): Answers are typically limited to “Yes,” “No,” or “Unknown.”
-
Developing (Levels 5–10): The wind may offer brief insights, such as “they do not lie, but they are withholding knowledge,” or “the earth tremors of an unnatural presence.”
-
Profound (Levels 11+): The wind may proactively warn or inform you of dangers, secrets, or changes in the area — even without being asked — at your DM’s discretion.
Whispered Focus.
As your bond grows, so too may your abilities. These expansions are left to you and your DM — explore, experiment, and enjoy the wind’s company.
