You can come up with a contact when needed, and tell the DM (Just their name, race, how you know them, and how they may help).

Upon DM approval, the contact exists. You must roll a DC 15 relevant to what you need them for, to see if the contact is available. Then, when you interact with the contact, it is the DM's discretion on how the contact acts and what the contact can do for you.

This feature can be used once per long rest.
