Fractured Mind

Feat Type: Homebrew Feat
Prerequisite: The character has at least two distinct personalities (e.g., Mirae and Taei)

Core Mechanic – Personality Roll

Whenever you complete a Long Rest or Short Rest, roll 1d20 to determine which personality becomes dominant for the upcoming period:

  • 1–10: Mirae becomes the dominant personality

  • 11–20: Taei becomes the dominant personality

Inspiration Influence

Each time you gain an Inspiration Point, note which personality was active when it was gained.

When rolling the Personality Roll, apply the following modifiers:

  • For each Inspiration gained while Mirae was dominant: –1 to the roll

  • For each Inspiration gained while Taei was dominant: +1 to the roll

This system reflects how the strength of each persona grows with how actively it is expressed in the game.

Involuntary Personality Shifts

The DM may call for a Personality Roll at any time during moments of high tension, emotional stress, or psychological disruption. These moments include, but are not limited to:

  • Near-death situations

  • Intense emotional or moral conflict

  • Psychic or mental attacks

  • Scenarios where the dominant personality is not suited to the context (e.g., Mirae is dominant during a ruthless decision, or Taei is active during a compassionate moment)

These shifts are involuntary and last for at least 1 in-game hour, or until the next rest-based Personality Roll.

Persona-Based Skill Modifiers

Depending on which personality is currently dominant, apply the following effects to skill checks:

Mirae (Dominant)

  • Gain +1 to Wisdom ability checks (not saving throws or spell DCs)

  • Gain Advantage on either Insight or Medicine checks (choose one at the start of the day)

  • Suffer Disadvantage on Intimidation checks

Taei (Dominant)

  • Gain +1 to Intelligence ability checks (not saving throws or spell DCs)

  • Gain Advantage on either Investigation or Survival checks (choose one at the start of the day)

  • Suffer Disadvantage on Persuasion checks

Note: These benefits do not modify your base ability scores and do not affect combat rolls, saving throws, or spell DCs.

Design Note for DMs

This feat is intended to provide mechanical expression of a split-personality character concept without requiring multiple character sheets or full stat swapping. It leverages the existing Inspiration system to organically promote consistent roleplaying, and introduces variability in skill-based performance without breaking balance in combat or progression.
