Description:
The Neural Runechip is a sliver-thin shard of mana-reactive orichalcum embedded with arcane circuitry and microscopic runes. It’s about the size of a thumbnail and is usually implanted beneath the skin at the base of the skull, behind the ear, or at the inner forearm — wherever the nerves meet dense mana flow. Once implanted and attuned, it vanishes into the body, leaving behind a faint geometric scar that pulses with dim light when in use.
🔹 Magical-Scientific Nature:
The Runechip acts as a mana-transducing interface between the user's nervous system and ambient arcane fields. It creates a personalized mental HUD — a semi-conscious construct called the mana archive— granting the user a psychic connection to codified lore, battlefield awareness, and communication nodes.
While mostly seen as a tool, older casters whisper that the Archive is not entirely inert. It learns. It adapts.
**Level 1: Base Functions**

**Level 6: Tactical Suite**

| 🎯 **Tactical Ping** | Once per **24 hours**, you can mark a creature you see. Allies in Echo Chat gain +1 to hit it for 1 round. |
| 🧬 **Monster Profile** | **1 use per 24 hours.** Use a full action to scan a visible creature. Learn: creature type, resistances, vulnerabilities, and one notable ability (determined by DM). |
**Level 11: Resonance Mode**

Choose 1 use per day: <br>— Gain advantage on a major Arcana/History/Nature check<br>— Cast *Comprehend Languages* without components<br>— Telepathically contact an ally or NPC you've met across vast distance (like *sending*) |
| ✍️ **Spell Sketch** *(2/day)* | As a reaction or bonus action, use your Archive to predict the next spell a foe is casting (Arcana check vs spell DC). On success, gain advantage on saving throw or resistance to the next incoming spell of that type. |

Removal & Danger:
The chip cannot be safely removed without destroying it and potentially harming the bearer. Attempts to extract it forcibly trigger:
A burnout pulse that fries the magical pathways
A possible neural backlash (INT save or suffer memory loss or confusion)
A minor mana explosion (treat as a small arcane trap, force damage)
Rumors abound of "awakened" Runechips that evolved beyond their programming, even turning sentient — but these are unconfirmed… mostly.
