When you witness a creature casting a spell within 60 feet of you, you can store it in an attempt to memorize it. The spell needs to be cast using at least one of Verbal or Somatic components, and the spell can't have been cast ritually.
When you want to cast the spell, make a spell attack with a D20 + your spellcasting modifier versus a DC of 10 + the spell's level + the number of days since you last witnessed the spell being cast. On a success, you cast the spell, and on a fail, you waste the action or bonus action used to cast, but no spell slot is consumed.
Once you have succeeded in the roll to cast a spell once, you may cast it without an additional check until your next Long Rest.
Spells cast this way count as regular spells for you and can be modified with Metamagic, if available.
The maximum number of spells you can temporarily learn in this fashion is equal to your proficiency bonus. If you want to store a new spell beyond your maximum, choose one stored spell to forget.
