"I am the bone of my sword, and my sword is my bone, and my soul is my sword, and my sword is my soul."
- A drunk Hayate Homura, making fun of basic ahh swordsman abilities

From a young age, Hayate had studied the ways of the sword. Starting with his father's tutelage, continuing with rigorous sparring with Arima's dragon retainers, down to his own personal time spent training extensively to master it, as well as all the missions he completed out in the realms. It is not just mere swordsmanship, as he imbues the blades he wields with the fire soul, that was passed down the family line. A flame, that is both destructive and warding, one that regenerates his wounds, protects his allies, all the while incinerating his enemies to ash. Yet, Hayate had reached an even further mastery. Those same techniques, he'd take even further. His Fire Soul morphed, as through training he managed to mold it into something even more potent, guided by his training and his experiences on the fields of battle.

This empowered soul, through training, Hayate harnessed into a new fighting style. Alternating between it's offensive and defensive form, the fires of his soul empower his swordsmanship in the following way:

  •  As part of activating your Channel Divinity: Sacred Weapon to imbue a weapon you're bonded with via your Pact of the Blade feature, you may expend 2 focus points, dredging the deepest depths of your fire soul to draw out even more of its potential. In turn, your blade is enveloped by these same flames, giving your weapon a reach of 60 ft., or increasing it by 60 ft. if it already had it, the flames of your soul turning into a piercing, scorching blade, erupting forward to incinerate your foes. This flame, craving your enemy's end, in this refined form curves around cover and objects, allowing you to strike foes from surprising angles. Attacks made with this weapon, while your fiery soul enhances it so, ignore all effects of cover, and do not require a line of sight, so long as you're aware of the opponent's exact position.
  • At the start of your turn, you may instead opt to switch up your form at the cost of 1 focus point, entering a more defensive stance. The fire that formed your blade instead coalesces around you, ready to redirect the energies of your enemy's attacks back at them. Whenever you, or an ally within your Aura of Protection's range is hit by an attack, you may use a reaction to interpose your blade against it's attack, moving within 5ft of the targeted ally and in between the targeted ally and the enemy if necessary, and likewise pushing the enemy back 5ft to make space.
When doing so, the flames that used to wreathe your blade spread out to shield from harm, redirecting the power behind the attacks directed at you away. You may use your Deflect Attack feature against every attack they make against you or the target. Once the attacks are over with, as part of the same reaction, if the enemy is still in melee, you may hit the enemy with the hilt of your sword, unleashing the energy stored from the deflected attacks, knocking the enemy back 10ft and knocking them prone.

At the start of each turn, you may shift which form you're using at the cost of 1 focus point, as the portion of the fire soul you further imbued into your weapon shifts back to either wreathing your blade, and seeking out your enemies, or coalesce around you, to ward yourself, and those you deem fit your protection.
This effect lasts while your Channel Divinity: Sacred Weapon does, and ends at the same time it does.
