Bound Companion
You are bound to a singular, mythic animal — not conjured, not replaceable, but truly alive. This Watcher is mortal, yet tied to your fate.
- Base Form. Choose any CR 0 beast from the Find Familiar list such as a Bat, Cat, Hawk, Owl, Rat, Raven, Weasel, or another Beast that has a Challenge Rating of 0. Use that creature’s stat block as its foundation.
- Scaling Durability. Increase the creature’s Armor Class by your proficiency bonus (PB), and increase its hit points by 5 × PB.
- Skill Scaling. For any skill in which the creature is naturally proficient, it also adds your PB to its checks.
- Attacks. The Watcher retains its natural attacks. It uses your PB for its attack rolls, and adds your PB to damage.
Bonded Nature
- The Watcher acts on your initiative, following your commands (no action required). If not commanded, it Dodges.
- If reduced to 0 HP, it falls unconscious and makes death saving throws like a player character.
- Only resurrection magic (such as Revivify or Raise Dead) can restore it if it dies.
Special Traits
- Evasion. If subjected to an effect that allows a Dexterity saving throw for half damage, the Watcher instead takes no damage on a success, and half damage on a failure.
- Flyby. If the creature has a fly speed, it gains Flyby (does not provoke opportunity attacks when flying out of an enemy’s reach).
- Pack Tactics. If the creature has only land or swim speed, it gains Pack Tactics (advantage on attack rolls if an ally is within 5 feet of the target).
Bond Features by Level
Level 1 – Primitive Communication.
You and your Watcher communicate through sounds and signals, functioning like limited telepathy if it can see or hear you.
Level 3 – Shared Senses.
As an action, you can perceive through your Watcher’s senses (sight, hearing, smell, etc.) within 100 feet. While doing so, you are blinded and deafened to your own senses.
You can also communicate telepathically with it within 100 feet.
Level 5 – Planar Reach.
Shared Senses and telepathic communication extend anywhere on the same plane of existence.
Design Notes
This feat provides a unique, persistent companion that grows with the character. The Watcher is not a combat pet, but with scaling HP, AC, Evasion, and Pack Tactics/Flyby, it remains durable and tactically meaningful. Its greatest strength lies in scouting, senses, and the deepening mystical bond unlocked as the character advances.
