You don’t just rely on luck—you toy with it, coax it, and dare it to turn against you.
Fortune seems to favor you, though it often demands a price. Whether through instinct, divine favor, or sheer audacity, you can twist fate to your advantage—or downfall.
- You have 3 luck points. Whenever you make an attack roll, an ability check, or a saving throw, you can spend one luck point to roll an additional d20. You can choose to spend one of your luck points after you roll the die, but before the outcome is determined. You choose which of the d20s is used for the attack roll, ability check, or saving throw.
- You can also spend one luck point when an attack roll is made against you. Roll a d20, and then choose whether the attack uses the attacker's roll or yours. If more than one creature spends a luck point to influence the outcome of a roll, the points cancel each other out; no additional dice are rolled.
- You regain your expended luck points when you finish a long rest.
Wild Fortune
Whenever you spend a luck point to reroll, compare your new roll to the original:
-
Better Luck (Higher Roll):
Fate smiles upon you. You succeed more spectacularly than expected, and a small fortunate event occurs at the DM’s discretion.
Examples: You find a hidden pouch of coins, your attack disarms your foe, you notice a clue you’d have missed, or your spell’s effect dazzles nearby enemies. -
Worse Luck (Lower Roll):
Luck betrays you. The roll stands as normal, but an unfortunate twist follows.
Examples: Your weapon bends or dulls, your footing slips, you draw unwanted attention, or your spell fizzles with backlash.
Pushing Your Luck
When you roll Better Luck, you may choose to push your luck and roll again, attempting to beat your new highest roll.
-
Each time you roll higher, your fortune intensifies and the good effect grows more powerful.
-
If you ever roll lower, your luck instantly turns—treat the outcome as Worse Luck, and the bad effect worsens for every time you pushed your luck.
You may continue pushing your luck as many times as you wish—until you stop voluntarily or tempt fate too far.
Critical Fate
-
A natural 20 on a reroll signifies legendary fortune: a truly extraordinary outcome occurs (at the DM’s discretion).
-
A natural 1 signifies disastrous misfortune: the worst conceivable twist of fate strikes.
