Forced Substitution 2026

Prerequisite: (Ability to cast spells and possess a spellcasting focus (arcane focus or holy symbol, while being a wizard, cleric, druid, warlock, bard, or sorcerer)

Your deep connection to your magical or divine source allows you to channel energy through your spellcasting focus to replace certain expensive material components.

Given allowed properties:

You can use your arcane focus (if an arcane caster) or holy symbol (if a divine caster) to cast spells that require material components with a gold piece value of 300 gp or less, as long as those components are not consumed by the spell.

Additionally:

You may cast three spells per long rest that does consume a material component worth up to 500 gp using your focus in place of the actual material. This use represents an intense exertion of magical or divine energy.

Special:

This feat does not apply to spells with components exceeding 600 gp in cost, or to any spell requiring components that are consumed unless using the special 3/day allowance.

This feat does not replace the need for spell components with a cost over 250 gp or unique items (e.g., a diamond worth 500 gp or such for Revivify).
