Curse Of The Marked Shadow Image

Origin: This curse is branded by an unknown entity. The mark appears as a faint black sigil somewhere on your body. A second shadow follows you, always slightly delayed or moving at a strange angle. It mimics you, but never perfectly.

Curse Effects:

  • The Second Shadow. You always cast two shadows. The second reacts to you, but sometimes moves on its own when you are still. It cannot be dispelled or removed by ordinary light.

  • Dark Reflection. When you are in dim light or darkness, your shadow grows stronger. You gain advantage on Stealth checks, but creatures that rely on sight have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to notice something unnatural about you.

  • The Entity’s Touch. Once per day, the mark flares. Roll a d20 at dawn:

    • On a 2–20, nothing happens.

    • On a 1, the entity’s presence pierces through. You take 2d8 necrotic damage, and your reflection whispers a phrase or word you do not understand. The DM may use this as a hook for visions or commands.

  • Lingering Drain. Each time you use magic that deals necrotic damage to kills a creature, the mark feeds. You regain 1d4 hit point, but your shadow grows darker and whispers follow you for the next hour.

  • Unbreakable Brand. Remove curse and similar spells fail unless the caster is of 9th level or higher and knows the true name of the entity that placed the mark.
