Prerequisite: You must read a book, or several books, that deal with the subject of handling and working with animals.
You have become proficient in animal handling. This includes the very basics of:
-
- calm a nervous or agitated animal
- convincing a wild animal you mean it no harm
- taming and training animals
- keep mounts from becoming spooked in combat or in other stressful situations
- intuitively understand an animal’s intentions
- performing risky maneuvers on a mount, such as jumping over a chasm
You have spent some time reading a book, or several books, that might teach your character a basic skill. You know the basics of a skill, to the point that you feel you can accomplish the tasks associated with it. However, this is purely book knowledge and doesn't teach you about things that a person does not normally encounter.
