You cannot take this feat instead of an ability score improvement. This feat can only be given at the DM's discretion. This feat can be granted a total of four times, each time grants another feature from the Draconic Aspects. At the fourth level you are fully transformed into an adult dragon of the type chosen for your draconic patron, replacing all features granted by this feat, removing your original racial features, and replacing any ability scores that are lower than the stats of the chosen dragon.

A cavern trembles with the weight of ancient power; its walls etched with claw marks that glow faintly with molten light. A warrior kneels before a crumbling altar, their blood pooling on the stone as they clutch a wound that refuses to close. Above them, the air shimmers with heat, and a low growl rumbles through the earth. Eyes like twin suns pierce the darkness, and a voice like rolling thunder speaks: “You have proven your strength. Now, rise as my kin.” Scales ripple across the warrior’s skin, their breath ignites with primal fire, and their heart pulses with the unyielding will of a dragon.

The beast howls, its twisted form writhing under the weight of a massive, clawed hand. The figure before it stands tall, eyes blazing with draconic fury, wings of shimmering scales unfurled. “You will kneel before the ancient flame!” they roar, as a torrent of radiant energy erupts from their maw, searing the abomination to ash.

Draconic Ascendants are mortals who have undergone a sacred metamorphosis, chosen by a dragon, ancient, primordial, or divine, to embody their power and legacy. Selected after trials of courage, resilience, or cunning, these individuals are infused with the essence of a dragon’s spirit, becoming living avatars of draconic might. Whether forged in the crucible of battle, tempered by wisdom, or marked by an unyielding will, Draconic Ascendants bear the physical and spiritual traits of their draconic patron, wielding elemental fury and commanding awe from all who witness their transformation.

The Draconic Ascendant transformation is a rare and powerful evolution, granted to those who have earned the favor of a dragon through extraordinary deeds or alignment with draconic ideals (such as power, honor, or dominion). This transformation reshapes the mortal into a hybrid of their original form and a dragon’s majesty, granting them physical and magical traits tied to their patron dragon’s type (e.g., fire for red dragons, ice for white, lightning for blue, etc.).

Draconic Aspects

The following features are available when you are granted the Draconic Ascendant feat. Each feature is tied to your patron dragon’s type, and its effects (e.g., damage type) are determined by your patron (see Draconic Patron Traits table).

Aspect

Description

Draconic Scales

Your skin hardens with shimmering scales, granting you a +1 bonus to AC and resistance to the damage type associated with your patron dragon (e.g., fire for a red dragon). If you already have natural armor, increase the AC bonus by 1 instead.

You are no longer capable of spending gold casually. Every coin leaving your hand feels like losing a piece of your soul; you must justify extravagant purchases aloud as though arguing with the dragon inside you.

Breath Weapon

You gain a breath weapon, a 15-foot cone or 30-foot line (your choice when you gain this aspect) that deals 1d10 damage of your patron’s damage type per character level (save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier). Creatures in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking half damage on a success. You can use this breath weapon once, regaining the ability to do so after a short or long rest.

Sleeping anywhere except on or directly beside your growing hoard becomes uncomfortable; you toss and turn unless you can feel the weight of your wealth beneath or around you and cannot recover levels of exhaustion.

Draconic Presence

You exude an aura of draconic majesty. As a bonus action, you can activate an aura for 1 minute, forcing creatures of your choice within 10 feet to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be frightened (for chromatic dragons) or charmed (for metallic dragons) until the end of their next turn. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses after a long rest.

Chromatic: You can no longer tolerate defiance or even mild disagreement without feeling genuine rage. People who contradict you, fail to show proper respect, or meet your gaze too boldly are seen as challengers to be crushed (verbally or otherwise). You must remind them of their place—every single time—or you brood in smoldering silence.

Metallic: You have become insufferably paternalistic. Mortals are wayward children who need your guidance whether they want it or not. You correct, lecture, and “gift” your wisdom unasked, growing coldly disappointed or quietly vengeful when your benevolent superiority is rejected. Refusing your help is the same as spitting in your face.

Draconic Wings

You sprout wings resembling your patron dragon’s, granting you a flying speed of 30 feet. Additionally, you gain advantage on Intimidation checks when your wings are visible.

You refuse to keep your wings folded for more than a few minutes at a time in the presence of others “A dragon does not hide its glory.” Crowded taverns, narrow doorways, or requests to “tuck them in” provoke genuine offense. You constantly angle yourself so that light catches your wings, or you subtly (or blatantly) flare them during dramatic moments in conversation.
