You have survived by scavenging, imitation, and improvisation—turning trash into tools and desperation into weapons.
During a long rest, you can spend 1 hour salvaging materials and assembling improvised devices from scrap you’ve gathered during the day (bone, wire, glass, wood, metal fragments, etc.). These devices are crude, temporary, and unreliable—but effective in the moment.
Improvised Fabrication
When you complete this hour of work, choose one of the following options:
• Quick Makes.
Create three Simple Devices of your choice from the Simple Device list.
Unused Simple Devices automatically fall apart and are reclaimed as scrap at your next long rest.
• Focused Build.
Create one Complex Device. When you do so, roll 1d20 to determine its quality (see the Quality Table).
At the end of your next long rest, an unused Complex Device has a 50% chance to break and become un-usable (d20 equal or under 10 = break). If the device does not break, you cannot use this feat to create any devices until the device is destroyed or breaks.
All devices created with this feat are nonmagical, visibly improvised, and cannot be sold for profit.
Simple Devices Table
| Device | Use | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Crude Bomb | Thrown (20/60) | 5-ft radius. Dex save (DC = 8 + PB + Int). 1d6 fire, half on success. |
| Snap Trap | Placed on a space | First creature to enter triggers it: 1d6 damage or restrained until end of its next turn. |
| Jury-Rig Lock Tools | One lock attempt | Advantage on one Thieves’ Tools check; tools break after. |
| Flash Charge | Thrown/placed | 5-ft radius. Con save or blinded until end of next turn. |
| Noise Maker | Activated | Loud sound audible up to ~300 ft (DM may vary by environment). |
Quality table
| d20 | Quality | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | Faulty | Works, but a minor complication occurs (DM chooses). |
| 6–10 | Crude | Functions as intended, but limited (shorter range / reduced duration). |
| 11–15 | Solid | Functions as intended. |
| 16–19 | Refined | Functions well: +1 minor perk (range, DC, duration, or +1d4 damage). |
| 20 | Brilliant | Exceptional: choose 1 major perk or 2 minor perks. |
