You can use an action to create a small handheld non-magical object. This object is permanent, however this item cannot be further than 10ft from your person or it spontaneously dissipates into a foul smelling smoke. You may only have a number of objects equal to your proficiency modifier at any one time. You may also make a single item with any simple magical effect, this item only lasts 1 minute. You may only make a magical item once per short rest.
