Bullet Smith
Prerequisite: Proficiency with firearms
Through careful craftsmanship and experimentation with alchemical powders and metals, you have learned to produce specialized ammunition for your firearms.
You gain proficiency with tinker’s tools if you do not already have it. Using these tools during a long rest, you can craft special ammunition with appropriate materials. You can create the following bullet types:
Trap Round
Crafted from bullets and tightly wound fishing line wrapped around a core of steel ball bearings, this round bursts into a web of snapping wire on impact.
Effect:
When you hit a creature with this bullet, the target must succeed on a 8+Dex Modfi + Prof Bonus Dexterity saving throw or become Restrained as thin metal wire and scattering bearings wrap around their limbs. The DC to see the thread is 10+dex bonus+ prof bonus
- A restrained creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
- Alternatively, you can fire two Trap Rounds into the ground within 10 feet of each other to create a nearly invisible tripwire of taut metallic thread between them. A creature that moves through the line must make the same saving throw or become Restrained.
Appearance:
When fired, the bullet whistles slightly. Upon impact it explodes into a spray of spinning ball bearings, while razor-thin wire snaps outward, wrapping around legs and weapons like a sudden metallic snare.
Explosive Round
This specialized round contains volatile alchemical gel and compacted black powder that detonates violently on impact.
Effect. When you hit a creature with this ammunition, the attack deals an additional 2d6 fire damage.
If the attack instead hits an object or structure, the attack deals double damage. If this damage destroys or breaches the target, the explosion leaves a 5-foot-diameter hole in the impacted surface.
Appearance:
The round glows faintly with amber alchemical gel visible in tiny seams along the casing. When it strikes, it erupts with a sharp thundercrack and a burst of white-hot force, sending fragments of stone, wood, or armor outward.
Piercing Round
Forged from dense iron ingots hammered into hardened rifle slugs, these bullets are built to punch through multiple targets.
Crafting:
One iron ingot and 10 bullets can produce 10 piercing rounds.
Effect:
If you hit a creature with this bullet and another creature is directly behind it within 5 feet, the second creature takes damage equal to half the damage dealt to the first creature.
Appearance:
The bullet is long, dark, and heavy with a needle-like tip. When fired, it punches through its first target with a clean metallic crack, leaving a narrow spiraling trail through armor, flesh, or wood before striking anything behind it.
