Origin Feat
Prerequisite:
Proficient in Animal Handling, Arcana or Nature

  • You gain a companion. If you are proficient in Animal Handling, it is a Beast, Arcana a Construct and Nature a Plant. It is medium or smaller and has a CR of your level divided by 4. From level 10 it can be Large.
The DM can allow other creature types (e.g. Elemental) or even Skill Proficiencies (e.g. Religion-Undead) according to the campaign setting.
The Companion in Combat: The companion is loyal to you and your allies, acts on your turn and shares your initiative. You can use a bonus action to command it.
Aggressive Command: If you command it to attack, you must succeed on a Skill check corresponding to the creature type with a DC of 17 - your Proficiency Bonus. If you use an action to command it, you make the roll with advantage. If you fail, you can repeat the save on subsequent turns, but if you fail twice, the creature won’t fight for you in this fight. It will only use the dodge or disengage action.
You can make a number of Aggressive Commands equal to your proficiency bonus per combat. Once you reach this limit, it will no longer attack (it will only use Dodge, Disengage, or similar safe actions).
  • Healing and replacing: Once per long or short rest, you can spend one use of a healer’s kit, or tools for constructs, spend one minute to make a Skill check corresponding to the creature type to heal/repair the creature and it regains a number of Hit Points equal to half the roll, rounded down.
If the creature dies, you can make a Survival check during a short or long rest to find a new one, or Investigation to find the materials to build a new one. The DC is 15 (but can be modified by the DM according to the environment). If you succeed, you can try to tame it (or create it): make a Skill check corresponding to the creature type, the DC is 12+CR (rounded down). If you succeed, the creature is loyal to you and your allies; if you fail, you can’t try again until you finish a long rest, if you fail twice to tame it, it flees (or is destroyed), and you have to find a new one (or find new materials).
  • One Companion Limit: You can only have one creature bonded through this feat at a time. If you bond with a new creature using this feat, your bond with the previous companion ends immediately. Creatures summoned, created, or animated by your companion do not count as your companion and cannot benefit from this feat’s features.
