Hearthward’s Claim
While wearing the Hearthward Stone, Brendor can use a bonus action to create a 20-foot radius aura centered on himself for 1 minute. This aura represents him magically "claiming" the space around him.
While inside the aura:
- Brendor and his allies have advantage on the first saving throw they make each turn against being charmed or frightened.
- When an ally inside the aura is hit by an attack, Brendor can use his reaction to grant that ally a +2 bonus to AC against that attack (he can do this a number of times equal to his proficiency bonus per long rest).
Additionally, once per long rest, when Brendor casts a spell of 1st level or higher while inside his own aura, he can treat the spell as if it were cast one level higher for the purpose of its effects (this does not increase the spell slot used). Spells can only be cast at a level for which Brendor has spell slots. (ie. cannot cast a 3rd level spell at 4th level if he cannot cast 4th level spells)
- He still needs to have the spell prepared (as a Wizard).
- He still needs to have access to that spell level normally.
- He still expends the normal spell slot (a 1st-level spell still uses a 1st-level slot).
- It only improves the outcome of the spell, not the slot used to cast it.
