Corax Dependency Image

The experiments performed upon you have left your body dependent upon Corax. What began as a means of controlling your altered physiology has developed into a powerful physical and psychological addiction.

The Ache

When you aren't under the effects of Corax, the symptoms it suppresses gradually return.

After 8 hours without Corax, you suffer a −1 penalty to ability checks as headaches, chronic pain, restlessness, and trembling begin to return.

Withdrawal

After 48 hours without Corax, you enter withdrawal.

At the end of each Long Rest while in withdrawal, make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw. The DC increases by 1 for every additional day you go without Corax.

On a failure, your withdrawal advances one stage.

Stage 1 — Tremors. You have Disadvantage on Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) checks and Constitution saving throws made to maintain Concentration.

Stage 2 — Agony. Your Speed is reduced by 5 feet, and you cannot gain Advantage on ability checks.

Stage 3 — Collapse. At the end of each Long Rest you remain at this stage without Corax, you gain 1 level of Exhaustion.

Relief

Taking Corax immediately suppresses The Ache and all effects of Withdrawal for the duration of the dose.

If you complete a Long Rest while under the effects of Corax, your Withdrawal is reduced by one stage. Exhaustion gained from Withdrawal must be removed normally.

Dependency

Corax suppresses your condition; it does not cure it. Removing this feat would require resolving the underlying condition through the story rather than simply using Lesser Restoration or similar magic.

Content Disclaimer

Corax is a fictional drug and includes themes of substance dependency, addiction, and withdrawal. These subjects may be uncomfortable or upsetting for some players.

Dungeon Masters who choose to use Corax, Corax Dependency, or similar mechanics are encouraged to discuss these themes with their players beforehand and ensure everyone at the table is comfortable with their inclusion.

Addiction should never be imposed upon a player character without that player's knowledge and agreement. These mechanics are intended to support character storytelling and roleplay, not to trivialize or accurately simulate real-world substance addiction.

DMs are encouraged to modify, simplify, or remove these mechanics as appropriate for their table.
