Ranger Level 5: Far Ranging Expert. When you fail an ability check that uses a skill that you are proficient with, you can expend a use of Favored Enemy to roll 1d6 (1d8 at ranger level 13; 1d10 at ranger level 20) and add it to the result, potentially turning it into a success. If the ability check fails anyway, the use of Favored Enemy is not expended.

Ranger Level 6: Improved Favored Enemy. When you take the Attack Action you can expend a use of Favored Enemy to cast Hunter’s Mark as part of the action. When you use Favored Enemy to cast Hunter's Mark, it does not use concentration but ends early if you cast a concentration spell that adds damage dice to weapon attacks such as Hex, Spirit Shroud, or Conjure Minor Elementals.

Ranger Level 6: Improved Hunter's Mark. When you cast Hunter’s Mark it gains these additional features:

  • If the creature drops to 0 Hit Points before the spell ends, you can transfer the Hunter’s Mark to a different creature you can see within range (no action required).
  • When you miss with an attack with a weapon or unarmed strike on a creature that has your Hunter’s Mark, you can expend a use of Favored Enemy to roll 1d6 (1d8 at ranger level 13; 1d10 at ranger level 20) and add it to the result, potentially turning the miss into a hit. If the attack still misses, the use of Favored Enemy is not expended.
  • Once on each of your player character allies' turns, when the PC hits the target of your Hunter’s Mark with an attack as part of their Action, they deal an extra 1d6 (1d8 at ranger level 13; 1d10 at ranger level 20) force damage to the target.

Ranger Level 13: Great Hunter. The die size increases to a d8 for the Hunter’s Mark damage, Far Ranging Expert, and Improved Hunter's Mark.
