You are capable of adapting to enemy attacks as long as you stay focused on your opponents.

You gain proficiency with Constitution saving throws made to maintain concentration.

When you are hit by an enemy attack you may use your reaction to begin adapting to their attacks, this initially gives you a +1 AC against attacks from that enemy and further increases your AC by +1 for every additional time they hit you. When an an opponent other than the target of Adaptive Defense hits you with an attack you must make a concentration check with Advantage or lose half the bonus to AC Adaptive Defense is currently providing, while maintaining concentration on Adaptive Defense you cannot concentrate on spells and enemy attacks from sources other than the target of Adaptive Defense have Advantage against you. You do not provoke attacks of opportunity from the target of Adaptive Defense and they provoke attacks of opportunity for moving within your threatened area.

At the beginning of your turn you must choose to maintain your Adaptive Defense as a bonus action otherwise the effect is lost, you may take this bonus action even if you would normally not be allowed to take bonus actions (such as when paralyzed), if the target of Adaptive Defense is dead or otherwise incapacitated when you would maintain your Adaptive Defense you may switch targets to any opponent within 30ft of you that you can see and maintain half the current bonus it is providing. The maximum bonus Adaptive Defense can provide is equal to your proficiency bonus +2.

As you grow stronger you become capable of focusing on more opponents at once and become less vulnerable to attacks from those you are not focused on. Every 10th level you may focus on an additional opponent to a maximum of 3 targets at 20th level. Adding targets to your Adaptive Defense still requires you to use your reaction to adapt to their attacks.

At 5th level the first time you activate Adaptive Defense in an encounter it provides +2 AC instead of +1.

At 10th level you gain half the bonus of Adaptive Defense as a bonus to the Concentration check to maintain Adaptive Defense.

At 15th level enemies other than targets of Adaptive Defense no longer have Advantage on their attacks against you and half the bonus of Adaptive Defense applies against such attacks.

At 20th level the bonus from Adaptive Defense is applied as damage reduction against attacks and effects from targets of Adaptive Defense (or half the bonus for non-targets)
