Kokoro has developed the ability to intervene in the mechanical properties of his own spellcasting — not through innate magical instinct but through deliberate, practiced understanding of how magical energy behaves at the point of expression. This is not Sorcery. It is applied theory.
Tinkering Points: Kokoro gains 3 Tinkering Points per long rest. These points are spent to apply Arcane Tinkering modifications to his spells as he casts them. They do not interact with spell slots, ki, or any other resource pool.
He begins with access to three modifications:
Transmuted Casting — 1 Tinkering Point
When Kokoro casts a spell that deals a damage type from the following list — acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, thunder — he may spend 1 Tinkering Point to change the damage type to any other type on the list. This mirrors precisely what he did to the C4 charge: identifying the energetic signature of a substance and redirecting it at the material level. The spell functions identically in all other respects.
This is the natural first modification — it requires no new understanding, only the recognition that what he did to an alchemical compound he can do to a spell.
Careful Casting — 1 Tinkering Point
When Kokoro casts a spell that forces other creatures to make a saving throw, he may spend 1 Tinkering Point to choose up to three creatures he can see within the spell’s area. Those creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell. They still take half damage on spells that deal half on a save.
This modification is Kokoro learning precision at personal cost — he reduces the spell’s effective area to protect specific targets. It is the mechanical expression of his arc: learning to control who gets hurt.
Extended Casting — 1 Tinkering Point
When Kokoro casts a spell with a duration of 1 minute or longer, he may spend 1 Tinkering Point to double the spell’s duration, up to a maximum of 24 hours.
The Alchemist who thinks about how long things last, applied to magic. Also the most practically useful modification for his support role — his Web, his Faerie Fire, his Fog Cloud all become significantly more relevant in longer encounters.
