Ardent's Deadfall [5.5E Patch] Image

The following are the broad changes to the core ruleset for this campaign. For the full set of changes, see the change log on discord.

Banned Content. Content from prior to DnD 2024, including homebrew, is generally banned. Talk to me for exceptions or adjustments.

Skills. There are two new skills, Craft (replacing tools), Occultism (for eldritch rituals, undead, and extraplanar forces).

Critical Rolls. A result of 1 on a D20 Test always fails, a result of 20 on a D20 Test always succeeds. If a roll would be impossible to fail or succeed, no roll is called for.

Rebalanced Spells. If a spell has a duplicate with one having the (5.5e spell) tag, use the one with the tag (see change log).

Conditions. The following are the new conditions: Dazed, Hidden (see change log).

Hiding. When you take the Hide action, you make a Stealth check against the highest passive Perception of nearby creatures, or the environment. On a success, you are Hidden.

Grappling. Use the 2014 Grappling rules (contested Athletics vs Acrobatics or Athletics).

Weapons. When you gain a Weapon Mastery, you gain the property itself and can apply it to any weapon that you wield. However, if you use it for the weapon that it corresponds to, once per turn you can add your Proficiency Bonus a damage roll made with that weapon.

In addition, if you are wielding a weapon with the Versatile property with both hands, you can apply two masteries at the same time on a hit.

Unconscious. When you remove the Unconscious condition after being reduced to 0 Hit Points , you gain 1 level of the Exhaustion condition.

Dreadful Blessings. Some extraordinary boss monsters have Dreadful Blessings. This feature replaces Legendary Resistance, and can be used at any time. If a monster has Dreadful Blessings, they typically have two or three of them (see change log for more.)

Change Log - 2026 Patch

Conditions

Reworked:

Invisible

While you have the Invisible condition, in addition to the regular effects, your location becomes unknown.

New:

Dazed

The Dazed condition replaces many Stunned effects, and may be inflicted by enemies. While you have the Dazed condition, you experience the following effects:

Affected Actions. You can take an action or Bonus Action on your turn, not both.

Affected Spells. Creatures have Advantage on saving throws against your spells.

Hidden

While you have the Hidden condition, your location becomes unknown. The condition ends after any of the following:

  • You make a sound louder than a whisper.
  • Your presence is detected by an enemy.
  • You make an attack roll, or cast a spell with a Verbal component.
  • You aren't behind Cover.

Feats

If a feat has a duplicate with a (5.5e Patch) tag, use the one with the tag.

Reworked:

Crafter

You also gain proficiency in the Wisdom (Craft) skill, can use Intelligence in place of Wisdom for it, and make all ability checks for crafting with Advantage.

In addition, the 20 percent discount now applies to magic items and to scribing scrolls as well.

Savage Attacker

No longer restricted to once per turn.

New:

Boon of Wishes

You gain the Wish spell. You can cast it once without expending a spell slot, and must complete a Long Rest before you can cast it again. If you can never cast Wish again, you can replace this Epic Boon feat for another.

Classes

Paladin

Divine Smite no longer costs a Bonus Action.

Ranger

Talk to me - 2024 class is booty

Rogue

The damage of Sneak Attack has been increased; it becomes 4d6 at Rogue level 5, and 8d6 at Rogue level 11. At level 20, Sneak Attack should now be 12d6.

Sorcerer

Twin Spell is now like 2014, can spend Sorcery Points equal to spell level to target second creature.

Weapon Mastery

Reworked:

Topple

Once per turn when you hit a creature with this weapon, the creature has the Prone condition if your weapon’s damage roll exceeds their Strength score.

New:

Daze

Once per turn when you hit a creature with this weapon, the creature subtracts half your Proficiency Bonus (rounded down) from their next saving throw if your weapon’s damage roll exceeds their Constitution score and if it is made before the start of your next turn.

Evade

If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can move without provoking Opportunity Attacks from them until the end of your turn.

Expose

If you hit a creature with this weapon, the next attack roll made by a creature other than you against the target has Advantage if it is made before the start of your next turn.

Skills

Reworked:

Craft

All tools now share the Wisdom (Craft) skill. You have Disadvantage on skill checks using tools that you do not have proficiency with, and if you have proficiency in Craft, then you add your Proficiency Bonus to skill checks with the tool.

You may also use the Craft skill to analyze architecture, schematics, or something made by hand.

New:

Occultism

The new Intelligence (Occultism) skill is for lore on eldritch rituals, psionics, undead, and extraplanar entities and realms.
