Determined Assistant

When assisting a superior in an area that you don't specialize in, you are determined to prove your worth, putting in more effort than those around you so as to attempt to impress the person you are attempting to assist.

• Increase one ability score of your choice by 1, to a maximum of 20.
• You gain half proficiency (rounded up) in the Persuasion skill if you don't already have it.*
• You can take the Help action as a bonus action.
• You can assist someone on a skill check and give them advantage even if you have no degree of proficiency in that skill. When doing this you can even have disadvantage on the check, but you must not have a negative bonus to the check and the assist must make sense.**
• It takes you half the time to acquire proficiency in an instrument or artisan's tool when training for such during downtime so long as you learn under a master or some form of proper education. Additionally, you can choose to opt-out of the training at half of that time and still gain half-proficiency and the ability to resume the training later, leaving on positive terms with the master under whom you apprenticed.***

*If you already have half-proficiency or proficiency in the Persuasion then you have to manually set the half-proficiency in another skill in your character sheet since DDB doesn't automatically give the option for changing the half proficiency.
**The rules for assisting someone with ability checks may vary depending on your DM, or it may not be an option at all. Personally, I rule that a player can assist another so long as they have at least half proficiency in that skill and the assist makes sense.
***Training for proficiencies in instruments/artisan's tools/skills during downtime depends on if your DM allows it, and the time required for it may vary depending on your DM. There are some recommendations on how to handle these rules in Xanathar's Guide to Everything, page 134 - "Training".
