Prerequisite: Versatile Fighting Style
Wielding versatile weapons gives you more options in combat. You gain the following benefits while wielding a single weapon with the versatile property in one or both hands:
- When you are wielding a versatile weapon with which you are proficient in one hand you gain the following benefit
- When another creature hits you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to add your half your proficiency bonus (rounded down) to your AC for that attack, potentially causing the attack to miss you.
- When you are wielding a versatile weapon with which you are proficient in two hands you gain the following benefits
- On your turn, when you score a critical hit, you can make one melee weapon attack as a bonus action.
- Before you make a melee attack, you can choose to take a -3 penalty to the attack roll. If you do so and the attack hits, it deals +5 damage.
- While wielding a weapon with the versatile property in one or both hands and wielding no other weapons or shield, you can alter your grip as a free action and choose to deal either bludgeoning, piercing or slashing damage with the weapon.
