Posted Sep 10, 2019Ok so 1. No class EVER gets a ASI/feat at level 5
2. Monks AC bonus is already 10 + wisdom + dexterity
Of you mean that they add in dex again for there AC just say add double your dex mod and that would be kind of OP, it's a free 5 AC so that means with no armor or items its 25 AC, with a ANYTHING of protection the monk will not be able to be hit stacking that on top of there evasion feature and there diamond soul feature (proficiency in ALL saving throws AND if they fail a saving throw they can spend 1 ki to re roll it) it means the monk can't be damaged 75% of the time

Posted Sep 13, 2019monks do not need armor or any more of a AC boost then they already get, most monks will invest all there ASIs in wisdom and dex meaning they get 20 flay AC WITHOUT armor and then they can get further boosts from items like Cloak of Protection (You gain a +1 bonus to AC and saving throws while you wear this cloak.) ring of protection (same as the cloak) Ioun stone of protection (+1 AC and it floats around your head) Bracers of defense ("While wearing these bracers, you gain a +2 bonus to AC if you are wearing no armor and using no shield.") staff of defense ( "This slender, hollow staff is made of glass yet is as strong as oak. It weighs 3 pounds. You must be attuned to the staff to gain its benefits and cast its spells. While holding the staff, you have a +1 bonus to your Armor Class. The staff has 10 charges, which are used to fuel the spells within it. With the staff in hand, you can use your action to cast one of the following spells from the staff if the spell is on your class's spell list: mage armor (1 charge) or shield (2 charges). No components are required. The staff regains 1d6+4 expended charges each day at dawn. If you expend the staff's last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff shatters and is destroyed.") and any weapon with the "defender enchant" as someone who plays a monk I will say THEY DO NOT NEED ANY MORE AC they also have a ton of ways to escape and disengage before they get attacked.

Posted Jul 19, 2026Hey I know this is an old post but you are making a lot of assumptions. First off we are in homebrew territory here so don't get so offended that someone decided to make something you personally find OP. Second, and most importantly, +1 plate armor with a +1 shield is already 22 AC and if all those other items you mentioned are in play for the theoretical game you are referring to then that may as well be +3 plate armor and +3 shield for 26 AC. A monk that has 20 Wisdom and 20 Dexterity that would be considering this feat (if it indeed is meant to give double dex to AC) is probably at least level 12 since in order to have gotten two stats to 20 they will have already had to spend at least two ASI levels on actually picking ASI unless they are already in an OP setting were they were allowed to roll stats, got two 18's picked a species with +2 to one of those and +1 to the other and have only needed one ASI level making minimum level 8 for considering this feat. So that 20/20 monk has AC 20 and the items you mentioned give a total of +5 to AC 2 of that is also available to aforementioned armor and shield user so that guy can get an AC of 27 and lets fact it they are a fighter or otherwise have access to the defense fighting style for an additional 1 AC of 28... This hypothetical twink monk would have 25 ac with a lot of effort and having to have burned one or two ASI on ability score but the armored guy can just have the 15 strength needed for the armor and get more AC than him. Also AC just means you are harder to hit, a good GM just throws saves at that sort of character to get around that.
