When you cast any cantrip of your class using your own personal spellbook or a sardonyx worth at least 500 gp as an additional non-consumed material component you add your classes spell casting ability score modifier to the damage it deals on a hit. If you cast cantrips this way you can not wield any weapons, but you may still use a shield.
