Designed for 5.0 but can be adapted.
PreRequistes: a party member of an applicable class qualifications. (If you are seeking an apprentice, talk to DM about creation). Mentor must be at least 1 level above the apprentice in the class which the mentor is teaching with at the time of apprenticeship. Must be of a class who can TEACH the skills and aren’t given them by an external force. (Warlocks, Paladins, and other classes like these cannot teach spell casting due to them reviving magical abilities from deities)
This Feat can be taken by a player to become an apprentice to another without need of Feat gain. However this must be a mural agreement between players and DM.
The mentor can teach the apprentice Combat, Casting, or both to the apprentice. The apprentice receives the experience as the mentor and is not counted for Xp division. (Example party of 4 with mentor and apprentice. 750xp divide by 3 = 250. Everyone receives 250.) However this effect only counts when both the mentor and apprentice are involved in the action which gained xp. In this case do is treated normally. In order for apprentice to gain experience, they must spend 1 short rest (if only teaching Casting or Combat) or 2 short rests (if teaching both).
Caster: During a long rest, when spell slots are regained and can be swapped, the mentor can teach a spell that they had ready since the last long rest, regardless of spell slots, to the apprentice in place of one of their normal spell slots. Note an apprentice may only have one temporary trained spell at a time and an equivalent of 3 to 5 long rests must be used in order for that apprentice to permanently learn the spell (3 for cantrips and 1st. 4 for 2nd and 3rd. 5 for 4th and 5th)
Combat, by training apprentice for a week, they gain a proficiency in a selected weapon class or gain a fighting style/attack/maneuver.
Optional rule: the apprentice and mentor must roll a d20 for success of teaching. DM determines bonuses.
