You are able to cast spells you have prepared when out of the required spell slots. This will come at a great cost based on how powerful the spell is compared to your power.

The effect of casting the spell is based on the Effect Level which is your maximum spell slot based on your level - the level of spell slot consumed.Example: A level 17 wizard casting Sleep at 1st level would be Effect Level 8, that same wizard casting sleep at 9th level would be Effect Level 0.

The effects resolve in order from highest to lowest after the spell is resolved.

You cannot use this feat to cast spells again until you finish a long rest.

Effect Table

The effects of casting the spell are cumulative as you go down the table. Starting at Effect Level 8 to Level 0.

8. You take a point of exhaustion.

7. You do not regain the spell slot that would have been exhausted to cast this cast this spell had you cast it normally after your next long rest.

6. Casting any spell that requires spell slots during the next three days (starting at dawn) cause you to take 1d4 necrotic damage per spell level. If Reckless Mage is used to cast a spell during this time the damage is 1D10.

5. You do not recover hit dice until you finish 2 long rest.

4. You take two points of exhaustion.

3. your strength score drops to 5 if it is not already 5 or lower until you finish a long rest.

2. You do not recover spell slots until your finish 2 long rest.

1. You take 1D6 per level of your highest spell casting class in necrotic damage.

0. You are knocked unconscious but stable, Unless any of the above effects cause you to become unconscious those effects take precedent.
