Prerequisite: Requires a Strength score of 15 or higher Requires proficiency in Smith's Tools
You have spent decades honing your craft, striving to become the best blacksmith. The years in front of a hot forge have paid off and your skills reflect that.
- Increase your Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, or Constitution score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
- You gain Expertise in Smith's Tools and you can add double your proficiency bonus to any check for social interactions about, to identify, or to recall information about metals or forged items, even if your proficiency bonus would not normally apply. You have advantage on Smith's Tools checks to maintain and repair items. You can work with difficult metals such as adamantine, but you must have access to a specialized forge or tools to do so.
- You can work on forging items for up to 12 hours per day. After 12 hours of work without a long rest you must succeed a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or gain one level of Exhaustion. The DC increases by 5 every hour thereafter. The cost and time to forge an item depends on the item rarity, as listed below. Your DM may deem special crafting ingredients and/or recipes necessary for some items; if so, your DM will tell you how to proceed, perhaps by doing research in a library or hunting down a monster. If you wish to create a custom item, work with your DM to determine the abilities, rarity, and components.
- Non-magical - cost is 1/4 of the sales price, as listed in the PHB, divide that gold cost by 10 to determine crafting time (i.e., a breastplate costs 400gp, it'll cost you 100 gp and 10 hours to craft)
- Common - 25 gp, 2.5 hours
- Uncommon- 100 gp, 10 hours
- Rare- 1,000 gp, 100 hours
- Very Rare- 10,000 gp, 1,000 hours
- Legendary - 500,000 gp, 50,000 hours
- Once per long rest you may use Smith's Tools and 5g worth of scrap metals, which are consumed in the process, to temporarily improve one set of medium or heavy armor made of metal. Improving armor grants a bonus to AC equal to half your proficiency bonus, rounded down, for the next 8 hours. Only one set of armor can be affected at a time.
- Once per short rest you may use Smith's Tools to temporarily improve one weapon that lacks the Range property or a number of pieces of ammunition equal to your character level. You give the weapon or ammunition a bonus to damage rolls equal to your proficiency bonus. Once the weapon has dealt damage a number of times equal to your character level, the bonus ends; the bonus ends on ammunition once it has been fired, hit or miss. The effect wears off after a number of days equal to your Strength modifier.
- At level 10 you can affect a second weapon or twice the amount of ammunition during a short rest.

Posted Dec 24, 2021At 12 hours a day without ever taking a day off, it would take roughly 45 YEARS to craft a legendary weapon by these standards
