Thanks to extensive practice with the crossbow, you gain the following benefits:
- You can create ammo for the bow you are proficient with.
- Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls.
- When you fail to land a ranged Attack action with your bow, you can use a bonus action to fire again.

Posted Oct 29, 2019I agree it sound not relevant, or not fun, but I - being an archer - can tell you that in reality waiting to see if your arrow hits (damage) or not an opponent, then decide to shoot another arrow (as a bonus action), is not how it would work. If you have to shoot 2 arrows in 6 seconds (+move somehow during your turn), you decide to go for rapid fire, no matter if you hit or not. You should be able to stop shooting your second arrow and loosing this action as you make your movement and aim at the target, but not wait to see if it hits, then start a bonus action to shoot one more.
